“...she makes the cello sing. Her technique is so self assured and her musicianship so delicate yet
passionate, that both I and the audience wished her performance had gone on much longer.”
-The Republic
“...Sweet strains evaporated, and in the ensuing afterglow — with conductor and musicians frozen, the
crowd entranced — silence ensued for … what? An eon? It may have been 10 seconds, possibly 20.
Whatever it was, it was definitely a moment. A magical moment.”
-Tribune-Star
“.... Hong was like a warm ray of sunshine on a crisp fall day. Hong’s sweet smile, her self-assured
personality, and virtuoso playing brought a ray of light and a feeling of warmth to the dark auditorium...”
-The Republic
“...Her sensitivity to the beauty of the musical line and her total involvement in her musicianship brought a
moment of “you could hear a pin drop” to an otherwise lighthearted concert.”
–The Republic
“...SeungAh Hong added her sumptuous, golden tone to beautiful cello solos and played
the continuo part in the baroque pieces with intelligence and strong underpinning.”
-The Republic
“...the cello solo reminiscent of Brahms lieder was played beautifully by SeungAh Hong.
As the piano entered the interweaving of singing lines was magical.”
-The Republic
“...Schumann cello concerto brought to life by South Korean Cellist Hong who negotiated her way through
this warm and embracing concerto with a blend of verve and elegance...the result being a richly lyrical
reading of a Romantic master work.”
